Hummer is the brand of sport-utility vehicles (H2, H3, SUVs) and large off-road vehicles or trucks manufactured by AM General Corporation – also referred to as General Motors since 1999. These 4x4s were originally manufactured for military use and were called as Humvee or HMMWV vehicles. The first two Hummer models are bulky vehicles with large engines and complex drive lines. In 1992, the company began selling out a civilian version of M998 Humvee.
In 1998, General Motors (GM) purchased the brand name and marketed three vehicles: the original Hummer H1, based on the Humvee; and the H2 and H3 models that were based on smaller, civilian-market GM platforms.
The Humvee offers exceptional speed, mobility and agility and is built upon a multi-purpose platform, which will accommodate a broad range of configurations. Humvees feature full-time four-wheel drive, independent suspension, steep approach and departure angles, 60 percent grad ability and 16 inches of ground clearance. Humvees are currently in use by the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy at locations throughout the United States and overseas.
Hummer was not used as a military vehicle but also owned by civilians and famous like Movie star Arnold Swazenegger, who fell in love with the Hummer and asked AMG to build him a one-off civilian version with a Corvette V-8.
The Hummer logo is as simple as other car logos. It is represented by “H” and usually with black background and white font or vice versa. The best Hummer logo was that of Horch. Its H was formed to suggest the gateway of a castle or city — an image of sturdy tradition. The GM became effective in branding the Hummer. Hummer logo got licensing deals from many companies unlike other car logos. They had used Hummer logo on flashlights, bicycles, coats, shoes, skateboards, hats, laptops, jewelry, clothing and other items. Hummer logo never runs out of fanatics as one of the prominent car logos even if it ceased to produce vehicles at present time.
